Taxes

IMPORTANT:  The rate you see is NOT what you as a business owner or homeowner will pay!

  • Homeowners receive a 20% general homestead exemption from city taxes on their primary residence as well as a 20% exemption from Van schools, in addition to the flat, state mandated school exemption of $15,000.  You won’t find this many exemptions anywhere else in East Texas!
  • And, every new business owner is eligible for tax abatements and 380 agreements, which will reduce your tax burden significantly, making it one of the lowest in the area!

And, you should also know that we are actively working to bring down the tax rate markedly in the next 10 years, committed to doing everything we can to make sizable reduction to the city tax rate.
